Installing Flowplayer HTML5 as TubeX Player
« on: March 26, 2013, 08:02:11 AM »
Hello. I am inquiring about how to go about setting up TubeX to use a fully licensed version of Flowplayer HTML5 so it will stream video to mobile devices. Our host said they already set up the server to allow for mobile video streaming. Although they weren't very specific about what they did exactly. So I have no way of knowing if what they did worked, yet.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I am willing to offer payment for getting TubeX to use the Flowplayer HTML5 player with full mobile and streaming capabilities.

Please let me know.

Yes the tech people working with the server has managed to figure it out. However, I could not tell how they did it. I wish I knew so I could implement it on my own sites. Even a method to update the existing free licensed flowplayer version would be nice to know.

I concur, this would be incredible.
Maybe add another player to tubex, a default player for mobile devices?
Or even switch out the current MP4 player (flowplayer) for one that works on both desktop and mobile devices?

This is the age of mobile devices ya know.

Yes I hear you loud and clear there. This is the age of mobile media. And this script deserves to have it.

I have been learning more about HTML5 and video implementation. I will be taking some online courses for html5 and php and mysql.

So far from what I can gather so far is that the global-header.tpl file is already very close to HTML5 compliant  already.
Code: [Select]
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
  <head>
    <title>tubex title</title>
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

It is just a matter of adding another player to the tpl files. Like video-player-html5.tpl
Then adding a mobile detection script to tell the script play either flv or mp4 for desktops and load the html5 player on mobile load. There is a 'fall back' setting for this.
We also need to implement the splash image. This should ALREADY be able to be done using the generated images from ffmpeg. Just adjust the image generation size to the size of the video you use and re-scale them for the preview thumbs. Then call the thumb to load as the splash image. But yet, I still do not know how to implement this.

Question: DO you have to buy a flowplayer license to use html5 mobile player? Or, can't you just program your own player using html5?

I am seriously considering contacting a new found source about paying them to modify my TubeX and so that I can duplicate the modification to what I said above. Plus maybe a few more things.
I think this would be worth it as long as Ican implement the changes on all tubex installs. I am not sure if they could program just like a 'patch upgrade installer' or what to make the adjustments automatically or what. But I am about to ask them. :)

I looked into some alternative tube scripts. A couple looked pretty nice and pretty PRICEY! $1k for a script that will do pretty much anything you want.. (With picture uploads also) .. But I am not payin $1000 dollars for it. That for sure. I'd rather modify Tubex since I like and is very easy to use.

This script definitely needs a default MP4 player/streamer for mobile with FLV fallback for desktops.
I'm currently looking into this too...but other projects have slowed my progress unfortunately.

Good to know someone out there is also working on it! I could not agree more.

I have also inquired about a fix for the current TradeX from github.
