Feeds do not link to the correct path for the Tumbnails
« on: September 15, 2013, 02:24:47 PM »
Shared / VPS / Dedicated server: Shared

Script Version: TubeX 1.0.0-SS released on January 25, 2010
PHP Version:
MySQL Version:

Have you tried the server test script: no
If yes, results (all passed, some issues (if so what?)):

Have you modified any code yourself: Yes
If yes, briefly describe changes: Only some changes to the Visual on the site.

Link to site: http://www.mykinktube.com

Description of issue: My video Feeds do not link to the correct path for the Thumbnails. Resulting in the thumbnails not showing on the site. So i need to change the path to where the script look for the thumbnails. Are there somewhere in the script i can do that?

This problem started after the server for my site was migrated. I have talked to customer support With my hosting provider and they located the problem and told me what was wrong but could not figure out how to fix it because they did not know the script. But thy told me that what i needed do do was to change the path for where the script looks for the thumbnails. All the thumbnail are there but the script is looking for them in the wrong Place.

Basically, my script is trying to load this: http://mykinktube.com/home1/fpenger/public_html/videos/t/y/ty4000/thumbs/00000001.jpg

Instead, it should be this:
http://mykinktube.com/videos/t/y/ty4000/thumbs/00000001.jpg

Anyone that can help me With this?

Is the path correct in the general settings area?

Thanks,
Chad

Yes, it appears that you are using a server path somewhere when you should be using your site URL

a4evermedia: Do you have any ide on where i can check this path and where i migth change it from a server path to my site URL?

The way my site is right now it is useless, i am loosing customers and traffic is Down big time. Hope you can help.

I notice that your 'Recently Viewed Videos' thumbnails are being linked correctly.  You should be able to copy the same <img> format and use it in the 'New Videos' section of your template.

It should look something like this:
Code: [Select]
<img src="{if $video.thumbnail}{$video.thumbnail}{else}{$g_config.no_preview}{/if}" class="video-thumb" title="{$video.title}" thumbs="{$video.num_thumbnails}" />

addendum:  I checked some of the other pages on your site and it appears that some thumbs are linking and some are not.  Which may indicate to me that the issue might be related to corrupted info in your database.  You might try first using the TubeX database repair and optimization utilities.  Save your General Settings, recompile and flush your template cache and see if that corrects the problem.

If that doesn't work you may next try to access your MySQL db through your CPanel (or whatever you are using) and do a database repair.  Go back to TubeX, save setting, recompile and flush, and see if that does the trick.

If that doesnt work you may want to reset your TubeX installation, there is a script for that in the utilities folder and RESTORE your ORIGINAL database backup, NOT any backup that you have made since the server migration.

Pls keep us updated

Thank you for Your reply and suggestion, sadly it did not work.

The reason the 'Recently Viewed Videos' are working is that it contains videos that where updated before the server migration. If you visit my site again you will see that all videos added to the site before July this year Works Perfect, thumbs are showing. But videos added after July (and after the server migration) are not working, no thumbnails.

So after the server migration the script is trying to load the thumbnails With a not working path.

<img src="{if $video.thumbnail}{$video.thumbnail}{else}{$g_config.no_preview}{/if}" class="video-thumb" title="{$video.title}" thumbs="{$video.num_thumbnails}" />

In this code i reccon i need to change the content of the {if $video.thumbnail} file or the content of the {$video.num_thumbnails} because this files probably contain the path to where the script look for the thumbnails.

This is the path the script is using: http://mykinktube.com/home1/fpenger/public_html/videos/t/y/ty4000/thumbs/00000001.jpg

This is the path the script needs to use: http://mykinktube.com/videos/t/y/ty4000/thumbs/00000001.jpg

So i need to get rid of the "home1/fpenger/public_html/" part

So what i believe i need to do is figure out where in the script the data is stored that tells the script where to find the thumbnails and change it to the correct path. Is this at all possible?

Because all the thumbnails are there in the correct order and in the right Place. Only i need the script to look for them directly on Mykinktube.com/ and not in mykinktube.com/home1/fpenger/Public_html/

Any New advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

I have, again, been in contact With customer support regarding this issue. and they provided my With the following info:

[Trent D.] Unfortunately that does seem to be an issue with the way the site is coded, you would need to speak to a developer on this. In the past with this issue, it has been because paths are using an absolute, instead of relative, format. I would recommend looking there first.

[Trent D.] I can let you know that the new servers are set up so that something like /home/fpenger (which is the old format on the old servers) would be symlinked to the real folder, in your case /home1/fpenger. This symlink may be interfering with how the script interprets the file path. You are correct that you need to speak to the developer that created the script, as he would be most familiar with that.

This doesn't tell me very much but may be you find it usefull in assisting me With this problem. I really hope so.

It looks like the paths are saved for the thumbnails in the DB.  Check the "tbx_video_thumbnail" table and see if it has the old path for the thumbs in it.  If it does then the table needs to be updated to show the correct path.

Thanks,
Chad

Good point, Chad.  If thats the case, it should not be difficult to search and replace the offending paths.

Frank, you may also want to add a mod_rewrite command to your Apache htaccess file to correct the path.

I would look something like this:

Code: [Select]
RewriteEngine on
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /
#
RedirectMatch  ^/home1/fpenger/public_html/videos/(.*)$   /videos/$1 [R=301,L]

Not sure if the syntax is exactly right but you can search for "using mod_write to change directories" to better explain how it works.

After making the addition of these lines to the htaccess file in your home directory (note: there is one in your tubex directory also), you can easily test it by using the sample incorrect URL you have already provided

http://mykinktube.com/home1/fpenger/public_html/videos/t/y/ty4000/thumbs/00000001.jpg

and see if that shows the corrected path to your image.

I'll work on figuring out a way to test it.

More Info:
http://www.noupe.com/php/10-mod_rewrite-rules-you-should-know.html

UPDATE: I've tested the code snippet above and it should work to transparently redirect your errant URLs.

Hi,

Thank you again for spending Your time on helping me resolve this issue. Chad: how do i Check the "tbx_video_thumbnail" table? Where do i find it and how do i edit it. I am sorry, but i am not very good at this stuff, that's the reason why i bought this script, to make it easy. So would appreciate some guidance on this.

a4evermedia: i will look in to the mod_rewrite command. Is this something that my hosting Company can fix for me, because this is not in the script but on the server Right?

I've updated my previous post.  I'm almost certain that I have it right.

Chad: how do i Check the "tbx_video_thumbnail" table?

Easiest way would to use phpMyAdmin if it is installed on your server.  You may need to contact your host to install it for you if it is not.

Thanks,
Chad
