TubeX / SEO Tips - Generating Video Page Meta Tags
« on: April 15, 2012, 11:36:42 AM »
To improve Search Engine ratings its best to use descriptive title, description and keyword META tag info.  The default video-watch.tpl does not do this but can easily be edited to accomplish this task.

Code: [Select]
{video var=$video videoid=$g_video_id}
{category var=$category id=$video.category_id}
{assign var=$comma_tags code=str_replace(' ', ',', $video.tags)}  {* Seperate the tags by commas *}
{template file=global-header.tpl video_watch="true" title=$category.name Sex: $video.title meta_description=$video.title XXX meta_keywords=$category.name,$comma_tags,xxx,video}

This code modifies the Page title by placing the category name and the text 'Sex:' before the normal video title, for descriptive purposes.

I also use the video title for the META descrition because the normal video description ( $video.description ) is usually too long to be of use.  To this, I add the text ' XXX'.

The generated META keyword tags also consists of the category name and a comma seperated list of the video tags, with the addition of the text ',xxx,video'

These changes should help you to improve you SE rankings overall with unique and easily generated Title, META Description and META Keyword information.

TubeX / Export Your TubeX Videos Into TGPX (or other scripts)
« on: April 14, 2012, 09:35:42 AM »
Create a custom template with the following:

Code: [Select]
{videos
var=$videos
amount=100
paginate=false
pagination=$pagination
sort=date_added DESC}

{foreach var=$video from=$videos}
      {category var=$category id=$video.category_id}
      {$g_config.base_url}/video/{$video.video_id}/|{$video.title}|{$video.tags}|http://www.yourdomain.com{$video.thumbnail}|250x200|{$category.name},Hardcore|<br/>
{/foreach}

This code will produce a HTML text page with 100 entries with the following format:

video url|video title|video tags|thumb url|thumb size|category(s)

The 'video title' can be imported as the 'gallery description' in TGPX, because video descriptions can be very long.

Make sure you change the yourdomain.com to your domain name.
You will also need to change the default 250x200 preview size to your TGPX default.

Notice that you can predefine the categor(ies),  i.e., Hardcore,Catagery,Category
That way you can add a video to several categories at once!

Copy and paste into TGPx import from File...

Note:  You can easily customize this script to produce other TGP import formats!

TubeX / Controlling Your Landing Page
« on: April 11, 2012, 05:45:35 PM »
Many people install TubeX into a subdirectory of their site.  In fact, I believe this is recommended. The question is then, how to best to link to the index page?

The following info is specific to Apache servers and .htaccess files.

I have found that the best way to link to your index page is by using the DirectoryIndex command at the top of your .htaccess file.

To send traffic entering http://www.yoursite.com/  to your TubeX index page http://www.yoursite.com/tubex/index.php, use
Code: [Select]
DirectoryIndex tubex/index.php

To send traffic entering http://www.yoursite.com/  to your custom TubeX page, use
Code: [Select]
DirectoryIndex tubex/custom.php?t=landing

These can be combined on a single line
Code: [Select]
DirectoryIndex tubex/index.php tubex/custom.php?t=landing index.php login.php

Alternately, you can use an .htaccess redirect but the syntax is tricky and I have found that in some cases the header info for traffic trading is lost, rendering traffic trading ineffective.

TubeX / Bulk Append Video Tags
« on: April 11, 2012, 04:51:20 PM »
I frequently want to add new tags to a selected group of videos at one time.  But just using the APPEND function in TubeX will cause the last old tag and the first new tag to 'run together'.  In other words, I need to force a space between the old and new tags.

This can be done with a Raw SQL command.
Code: [Select]
CONCAT(`tags`, ' newtag newtag etc')

Where newtag are the tags you want to append to the current tags.

TgpX(SE) / Resetting Ad Stats
« on: April 11, 2012, 12:20:14 PM »
Occasionally I need to reset ad stats in TGPX after adding new banners to the rotation.  There is a better way than clearing each banner stat individually.

     Resetting all stats at once can be done with a Raw SQL query
Code: [Select]
UPDATE `tx_ads` SET `raw_clicks`=0, `unique_clicks`=0, `times_displayed`=0

General Discussion / Hello!
« on: April 09, 2012, 08:44:35 AM »
I have been using TGPX, TubeX, and TradeX for quite a while, and frankly they are working very, very well.  The only problem I am having at all is the server load that TubeX is generating.  Moving to a dedicated server should soon solve that as well.

That said, though I claim to be no expert, I will gladly provide any useful info to anyone who also posts in this forum.
